Club & Trainer Profiles

Our Dogs

"Nij & Jo have a very special gift of understanding dog language and then translating it to the owner, eventually teaching us to "think dog", enabling us to have a far more positive relationship with our pet".

Bertie was formed in 1990 by Nij and Jo Vyas  and has gone from strength to strength. We work very closely with Bell, Brown and Bentley Veterinary Surgeons, Vets 4 Pets Veterinary Surgeons, Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, Leicester City Council, as well as the local community.

We work as a team and are very proud of the success we have had in training a variety of dog breeds from all disciplines.  Our members come, not only from Leicestershire but we also attract people nationally and the club has grown from strength to strength thanks to the commitment of our members.

JO VYAS -ENBTA

Jo is our puppy consultant, events specialist and weather expert. Bertie pride themselves on working with other professionals and institutions to promote responsible dog ownership effortlessly. In addition Jo enjoys the puppy socialisation sessions in particular, setting the puppies off on the right path.

NIJ  VYAS - B.A. Honors Psychology (APDT Member) International and National Sheepdog Trialist

I have a love of Border Collies with original background in breed shows but have competed in sheepdog trials since 1992. I qualified two dogs to compete in the English National Sheepdog Trials in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Skerry and I also represented England at the Centenary International Sheepdog Trials in 2006 All my dogs work on the farm, currently with approximately 600 sheep. Following Skerry's tragic death I am now concentrating on training her son Mac  and Skye

I specialise in "Behaviour Problems" such as car chasing, aggression, Sheepdog training and Livestock Aversion.

The secret to solving your dogs problem is to understand it - I will help you do this.

SEAN BOWN

Sean trains in the Beginner & Intermediate classes. He  specialises in Gundog Training and offers training on a one-one basis by appointment once the dogs have achieved basic obedience. Sean owns and works two Weimeraners and is responsible for supporting owners experiencing problems with their dogs which require individual attention.

At Bertie we have a high  trainer-member ratio to enable us to offer  individual, in depth, and quality training.

Endorsements
Lexie and Tehya are both improved. We now go in and out of doors before them. Lexie has met several dogs and is now calmer. We have started watching The Dog Whisperer on TV because he follows your principles of gentle training. We are getting there, slowly. Both dogs now seem calmer because we are establishing ourselves as leaders. Thank you so much for your help and support.
